sinopsis:
Partial discharge behavior in CIGRE II electrode systems under humidity and surface conditioning is the central focus of this monograph, which examines how environmental and material factors influence dielectric performance and insulation reliability. The book begins by situating the study within the development of Indonesia’s electrical power system and the growing challenges to operational reliability. It introduces the concept of partial discharge (PD), explains its significance in high-voltage insulation systems, and discusses the characteristics of Indonesia’s tropical climate, particularly high humidity, as a critical factor affecting insulation performance and long-term system stability.
The second part of the monograph presents the theoretical foundations of electrical breakdown phenomena in gases and solids, along with detailed explanations of measurement techniques for partial discharge and surface resistance. It also describes the characteristics of the CM II (CIGRE II) electrode system and the material properties of PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate) used in the experimental models. Building on this foundation, the book explores experimental investigations of PD characteristics under varying humidity levels and plasma exposure in PMMA-bounded voids, highlighting how moisture absorption and surface conditions alter discharge activity and insulation degradation processes.
The final chapters analyze the combined effects of humidity and surface roughness on partial insulation removal, as well as the time delay characteristics of partial discharge (Statistical Time Lag of Discharge, SDTL) in CM II electrode systems. Through systematic experimentation and analysis, the monograph demonstrates how environmental humidity and dielectric surface conditioning significantly influence discharge initiation, propagation, and time lag behavior. The book concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding these interactions for improving insulation design, predictive diagnostics, and the long-term reliability of high-voltage systems, particularly in tropical environments.
